Menu Bar

Quick tunnel access from your menu bar without opening the main window.

Enable Menu Bar

  1. Open Settings (Cmd+,)
  2. Go to General tab
  3. Enable Show in Menu Bar

The menu bar icon appears immediately.

State Meaning
Outline rings No active tunnels
Filled rings with lightning Tunnels running

Using the Popup

Click the menu bar icon to open the popup:

  • Tunnel list - All tunnels with status indicators
  • Play/Stop buttons - Start or stop each tunnel
  • Settings - Open app settings
  • Main Window - Open full StormTunnel window
  • Quit - Exit application

Closing the Popup

  • Click outside the popup
  • Click the menu bar icon again
  • Press Esc

Controlling Tunnels

Start a Tunnel

  1. Click the menu bar icon
  2. Find your tunnel
  3. Click the play button ▶️

Stop a Tunnel

  1. Click the menu bar icon
  2. Find the active tunnel
  3. Click the stop button ⏹️

Status Indicators

Indicator Meaning
Gray Disconnected
Blue spinner Connecting
Green Connected
Red Error

Troubleshooting

Icon Missing

  1. Check Settings → General → Show in Menu Bar is enabled
  2. Check if menu bar is full (too many icons)
  3. Restart StormTunnel
  1. Restart StormTunnel
  2. Try killall SystemUIServer in Terminal

Status Not Updating

  1. Check network connection
  2. Verify tunnel status in main window
  3. Restart StormTunnel
